Debate Mode

Watch AI models argue different sides of a topic with a judge declaring a winner.

What is Debate Mode?

Debate mode pits two AI models against each other in a structured argument. One model argues the "Pro" position, another argues "Con", and a third model acts as an impartial judge who evaluates the arguments and declares a winner.

How to Start a Debate

1

Select Debate Mode

From the dashboard, click on "Debate" mode or use the mode selector in the chat input bar.

2

Choose Your Models (Optional)

By default, GPT-5.2 argues Pro, Claude Sonnet 4.5 argues Con, and GPT-4o judges. You can customize these by clicking the model selectors.

3

Enter a Debate Topic

Type a topic or question that has two clear sides. Good examples: "Is remote work better than office work?", "Should AI be regulated?", "Is cryptocurrency a good investment?"

4

Watch the Debate

The debate unfolds in 3 rounds. Each model presents arguments, responds to the other, and makes closing statements before the judge delivers a verdict.

Debate Structure

Round 1: Opening Statements

Each side presents their initial position and main arguments for or against the topic.

Round 2: Rebuttals

Each side responds to the other's arguments, pointing out weaknesses and strengthening their own position.

Round 3: Closing Arguments

Each side makes their final case, summarizing key points and making a last appeal.

Judge's Verdict

The judge model evaluates all arguments based on logic, evidence, and persuasiveness, then declares a winner with a detailed explanation.

Tips for Good Debates

  • Clear topics: Frame your topic as a clear statement or question with two obvious sides.
  • Avoid loaded questions: Neutral phrasing leads to more balanced debates.
  • Mix models: Using models from different providers often produces more interesting debates.
  • Try different judges: The judge model can significantly affect the verdict - experiment with different options.
  • Current events: Models may have different training data, leading to interesting perspectives on recent topics.
